Guild Wars Burnout
I really, really love GW. It's been the best game I've ever played. But I think I'm finally getting burnt out. I recently bought a smokin', high-end, ass-kickin' computer and would like to try a game that showcases the new rig's potential better. I will, of course, return to GW in time, but I'd like to try something else for a while. I've been thinking about Oblivion, it looks great according to the reviews. But sometimes you need a second opinion. So I come to the Guru community to ask:
Is Oblivion the stunning RPG it's cracked up to be? Do I need to know anything about the earlier games in the Elder Scrolls series in order to play Oblivion? Or does anybody have any other suggestions? I want to stay away from anything multiplayer for now, though I will be tempted by LOTR online when it comes out.

I would say get Oblivion. It's everything the reviews have said and maybe more. My bros and I all have a copy, and they have been playing for months and still find new stuff. Also the replay value is up there as well since it's so big, and has a wide range of characters and such you can create. It has tons of stuff to do and you can put alot of time into it.
Another thing is that a new add on is about to come out and looks to add a good bit to the game as well if you buy it too. Overall I would say it's A+ and everyone I know of that has played it would agree.

I'm quitting GW effective right now. I'm going back to PS3 and never coming back.

I have Oblivion for my 360. Yes, it's good. HOWEVER, it won't devour your time for more than a few months. I did pretty much every single side quest I have any desire at all to complete within a single month, then made more and more builds for another two months. It's probably better on PC though, more downloadable junkst im sure.

Guild Wars is a game designed around the idea that you won't play it continuously 24/7, 365 days a year.
It was stated early on by devs and the game was christened as "ant-WoW" largely because of design elements such as leveling curves, the skill bar slot limitation, instanced adventure areas, etc.
I think a fair sum of people are reluctant to play Guild Wars in the manner the game designers prefer. No shocker there, I guess.
Many players milk the game dry, and then declare boredom.
It's their money and their right, and it seems to be the routine situation with a fairly predictable outcome.
All games will become stale after a while until it gets a refresh via an update or expansion.
How soon you get "bored" is largely dependent on your play style and how you play.
In general, I often feel sorry for game designers who work so hard to create the meandering paths through a rambling garden...only to have rushed and rampaging visitors never stop to smell the roses or explore the many winding trails.
But, maybe it's the garden's fault and thus, the designers. Perhaps the garden isn't enchanting enough, or maybe the boredom springs fully formed from the person hurriedly, slashing through the foliage.
Quote:
And we were never being boring
We had too much time to find for ourselves
And we were never being boring
We dressed up and fought, then thought: make amends
And we were never being boring
We were never being bored
cause we were never being boring
We were never being bored
